About me

Hi there and welcome.
My name is Lisa Paul.
I am a registered Counsellor/Psychotherapist working with mood disorders such as anxiety and depression, PTSD, grief and loss and trauma - including childhood traumas and birth trauma.

I also specialize in Perinatal Mental Health working with mothers during pregnancy, birth and postnatally who are struggling for a variety of reasons. Struggling with adjustment to parenthood and the emotions that come with that are very common.

My focus is attachment based, psychodynamic approach which means we look at what is going on currently and history too, what it was like growing up for you and how that affects where you are now.

I am also a natural therapist and practice a range of therapies which help to nurture people back to health.

My belief is that it can take a range of things to assist people back to health or maintain health, whether physical, mental, emotional or spiritual.   For further information go to healththerapies.com.au

EXPERIENCE

I began my career in working with people after completing my Nursing qualification. I worked as a General Nurse in Respiratory/Infectious Diseases before moving into Neonatal Intensive Care and after 12 months there, I went on to do my qualification in Midwifery. I worked in all areas of Midwifery - Antenatally, Birth, Postnatal and Special Care Nursery and I went from being a junior to a senior Midwife and spent 25 years working in this amazing field.

However, I saw a gap in this service. We were missing one of the most crucial areas in caring for these women and that was in the mental health field. So back to University I went...…I wanted to try and bridge that gap so I completed my Counselling degree and moved into the mental health field. I am now a Credentialed Mental Health Nurse.

I have been working with women for the past 5 years now in Perinatal Mental Health and I have gone on to do a lot of trainings to specialize in working within this field as well as working with trauma. This provides flexibility where we can integrate models to make something that works well for you.  I am a big believer in a "one size does not fit all" approach, so your therapy is tailored to suit you and in consultation WITH you. Sessions are really shaped around what you need to be able to resume your life in a way that you feel is best for you. This can be either short term work or long term, depending on what you want to work through.

So within this space, I aim to create a place that feels calm, inviting, no judgement and safe to be able to talk about and work through your thoughts and feelings, to help you find yourself again and to reconnect back into you.
